Arundel House Statement of Faith

We welcome residents of all religious backgrounds to Arundel House; while we believe that only a personal acceptance of God's grace through Jesus Christ will bring them into relationship with the one true, living God. This is our hope and prayer for all our residents, knowing that God's desire is that all should be saved.

We believe that the Gospel, God's message of salvation, is made effective by the Holy Spirit in drawing people to God in repentance and faith, and enabling them to grow in his grace. This is a free gift from God and not a result of our work. We seek to co-operate with the Spirit's work within our residents through our prayers, our words and our example.

We believe that the Gospel is authoritatively presented in the Bible, which was written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is to the Bible that we look to resolve all questions of faith and conduct.

We believe that central to God's message of salvation is the person and activity of Jesus Christ. Being fully God, he became fully human as a baby conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin mother. He grew up experiencing all the joys and sorrows of life on earth. Though without sin, he was condemned as a criminal, and died in our place, bearing all the evil and corruption of our world and of human hearts and lives. Having been restored to life by the Father three days later, he now offers forgiveness and eternal life in the presence of God to all who trust him.

We believe that the one God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - created the world in love, wisdom and power. We believe that suffering, death, and evil entered the world and every individual heart through human rebellion. Every person who will not allow Jesus to take his or her punishment stands condemned before God for that rebellion.

We look forward to a new creation of love, justice, health and peace, where sin and its consequences are abolished forever. This new creation has been guaranteed by Jesus' resurrection and is yet to be fully realised.

We believe that Christians now form a community of faith, love and hope; to praise God and encourage each other to live by the values of the new creation. We believe that God's forgiveness is freely given to all who have failed, who turn to him in repentance and faith. We regularly examine our own lives and acknowledge our own utter dependence on God's mercy.
