Arundel House has been a comfortable, home-away-from-home for many girls since 1920. The purpose of the house is to provide a caring, safe and Christian environment for female tertiary students to live and study, especially those who are living away from home for the first time. It is not merely a place to live, but a community where relationships are easy to develop and people are concerned for each other.

The management of the House is under the direction of the Arundel House Council, who are a group of interested and caring Christian people concerned that an environment conducive to study, personal growth and support is provided.

The day-to-day care of the residents is the responsibility of the Director who lives on site and regularly dines with the residents. The Director is here to care and support you and encourage your growth as a Christian or challenge you to think about spiritual matters. Three Senior Residents are appointed each year and they assist the director in caring for the residents. The Manager looks after the administration and maintenance of the house.

The community at Arundel House is based on a Christian principle of being considerate of and caring for one another. Warm community and genuine friendships are cultivated through our regular group activities. All residents are expected to join in dinner and activities each Monday night throughout the academic year. At the beginning of the year, orientation events are organised so that residents can get to know each other and find their way around the local area and the university campuses. During the year other social activities, such as study suppers, Christmas in July and an end of year dinner are part of the life of Arundel House. Many other spontaneous events are organised by the residents. Arundel House is small enough that you do not get lost in the crowd and can get to know every other resident in the house fairly easily.

Arundel House is a Christian community, but we welcome all people regardless of their beliefs. Our rules and expectations are grounded in Christian moral teaching and many of our community activities express our Christian convictions. We aim to provide an environment in which residents can question and investigate spiritual issues and Christian residents can grow in their faith. To this end there is an optional weekly bible-study and regular opportunities to engage with the Christian worldview. Some girls attend the local Anglican Church, St Barnabas Broadway or other nearby churches. International students are well catered for in Arundel House. About a quarter of our residents are from overseas. They find Arundel House to be accepting, a place where different cultures mix and where people learn from each others’ different experiences. The Director and Senior Residents are available to advise and help international residents adjust to life in Sydney as they commence or continue their studies.
